the fourth of july is one of my favorite holidays!
i wanted to keep the colors authentic to the american flag so we stayed with a dark navy and rustic red color scheme. it wouldn't be a 4th of july BBQ with out good old bbq food! we enjoyed some classic bbq staples: slow cooked ribs, corn on the cob, fruit salad, & sweet potato fries! i used a small cookie cutter to cut the watermelon into stars. the layered drink was one of my favorite parts - once you know the technique, the possibilities are endless! choose drinks with varying levels of sugar content per serving & fill the glass full of ice. add the most dense {the one with the most sugar} first to create the bottom layer. slowly add the other drinks one layer at a time in descending sugar content order! the layers will remain separate for at least 20 min and then begin to mix so leave this as the last step before guests arrive. the dessert table was right inside off the patio to avoid the direct heat & sun. i created the “cupcake stadium” by repurposing candleholders - they were the perfect shape and size to hold a cupcake. i used my cricut to create the cupcake wrappers and candy favor boxes using scrapbook paper.
